Developer Account Set Up

 

If your agency is looking to deploy a COVID-19 related application to your community and this is your first time deploying a mobile application, we strongly advise that you begin the developer account set up and approval process IMMEDIATELY.

As of 1/21 we are currently seeing 6-10 business day review times for new applications in Google Play.   Apple is moving much faster with review times, 24-48 hours in most cases.   That being said, Apple does quite a bit more screening on the front end to ensure their developers are legitimate.  Expect 2-3 days for initial Developer account approval as well there.   

We suggest you get a new email address/forwarder set up with the department (something like apps@yourdomain.com) for these accounts. At times Apple & Google send important information out and you want to be sure they don’t get lost in someone’s email box. Also, it’s not uncommon to run into the issue where the person whose email address was used leaves the department and no one can get back into the account.

Once the accounts below have been set up, you have the option to provide us with the administrative login information so we can proceed with getting the apps submitted & live, or, we can provide email addresses where invites to your developer accounts can be sent to. If you want to invite us, we’ll set up a quick call and walk you through those steps.

Register for a Google Play Developer Account

Step 1: Create a new Google Account using the email address you set up above. https://accounts.google.com/signup

Step 2: Sign up for a Google Play Developer via the Google Play Console using your new Google account. https://play.google.com/apps/publish/

Step 3: Accept the Developer Distribution Agreement
During the sign-up process, you’ll need to review and accept the Google Play Developer Distribution Agreement.

Step 4: Pay the registration fee
There is a $25 USD one-time registration fee

Step 5: Complete your account details.
Type your account details. Your “Developer name” is displayed to customers on Google Play.


Register Apple Dev Account

Step 1: Using the same email address, create a new Apple ID at https://appleid.apple.com/account

Step 2: Visit https://developer.apple.com/programs/enroll/, click the blue “Start Your Enrollment” button near the bottom of the screen, and log in with your Apple ID. You will want to enroll as an “Organization.”

Step 3: Once you complete the initial enrollment process above, Apple will reach out to via email and possibly phone to confirm that you are a part of the organization you are creating the account for. This process can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks depending on the volume of new accounts in process.

Note: You will access to an Apple Device (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch) in order to set up “Two Factor Verification” for your Apple Developer Account.
